Message from the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is a group of people from the community who are committed to the Mission and Guiding Principles of the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange (NRE). We are proud of the services that the NRE provides, and our goal is to increase and improve the programs and services for the community.
Our formal role is to represent the public interest in the administration and operation of the NRE, and to enable the organization to achieve its purpose. The Board sets policy, reviews the annual budget and monthly financial reports, and approves strategic planning and fundraising initiatives. We also review program evaluations, and participate in fundraising and educational activities in the community. The NRE employs an Executive Director who reports to the Board.
The Board of Directors acknowledges the commitment of the City of Nanaimo, the Regional District of Nanaimo, our sponsors, stakeholders, and all members to recycling and reducing waste in our community.
Becoming a Board Member:
Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting, or appointed to fill a vacancy. We welcome applications from people who are committed to the purpose and goals of the NRE, and those who can make the time commitment to serve.
In a typical month, a Director reads material and prepares for monthly meetings, and attends one regular board meeting. In addition, there may be a committee meeting, an NRE staff meeting, meetings with community stakeholders, a community event, and the Annual General Meeting. Additional duties are required of Board Executive members.
The NRE Board meets on the 4th Monday of each month (except December). Members and the public are invited to attend meetings. We welcome comments and input from the community: you can contact the Board of Directors by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
